Cleaning of ETRA Cittadella (PD) Wastewater Treatment Plant

As part of the redevelopment project for the wastewater treatment plant in Cittadella (PD), ETRA entrusted Gerotto with a series of critical operations to convert 10 primary wastewater treatment tanks into secondary and tertiary treatment tanks.

The primary goal was to ensure a hygienic and safe environment, achieved through cleaning of the tanks and the removal of disc diffusers used for the uniform distribution of microbubbles, ensuring optimal oxygenation of the oxidation tanks.

The operation was carried out in several phases:

1. Removal of Liquid Material
   Using a suction excavator, the Gerotto team removed the more liquid portion of the material, sending it directly to ETRA’s treatment facilities.

2. Suction of Sludge Material
   The denser portion of the material was extracted using the same suction excavator and subsequently discharged into roll-off containers for disposal.

3. Cleaning with a Remote-Controlled Robot
   To reach even the most difficult areas, a remote-controlled robot was deployed, ensuring a complete cleaning of the tanks while guaranteeing operator safety.

4. Operator Access for Diffuser Removal
   Once the preliminary cleaning was completed, operators were able to access the tank to remove the disc diffusers.

5. Final Washing
   The operation concluded with a thorough high-temperature wash of the tanks using high-pressure pumps, ensuring maximum hygiene.
