The Challenge
The Gerotto team was tasked with excavating and installing a new 250 mm diameter pipeline to complete the connection of a new water pump at the water plant. This project, part of a broader set of works planned by ETRA to address potential challenges brought by climate change, connected the existing 500 mm collector to the main 800 mm pipeline, enabling water supply to the SAVEC (Central Veneto Water System) through the Vigonza aqueduct system.
The Solution
To meet this challenge, the Gerotto team implemented a multi-phase approach:
-
Pre-Excavation Activities
A suction excavator was used to check for underground utilities and precisely determine the installation levels of the existing pipeline. -
Pipeline Installation
● Inside: A 250 mm stainless steel pipeline was supplied and installed within the pump room at the water plant.
● Outside: A 250 mm cast-iron pipeline was installed using trench excavation to connect to the main pipeline. -
No-Dig Excavation
Near the main aqueduct pipeline (800 mm in diameter), a suction excavator was used to perform non-destructive excavation, protecting the existing underground utilities. -
Final Connection
The main pipeline was precisely drilled to allow for the safe connection of the new water pump.
The Outcome
- Efficiency: The project was completed in just 13 days.
- Safety: The use of remote-controlled “No More Risk” technologies ensured maximum safety for operators.
- Minimal Socio-Environmental Impact: Non-destructive excavation preserved the integrity of all underground utilities.
Gerotto continues to stand out with innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions designed to support infrastructure maintenance.
